Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim experiences the stress during the 3-1 defeat at Brentford
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledges he cannot conceal from his poor statistics and believes it is expected that club legends are commenting on him.
Earlier this week, the club's all-time scorer Wayne Rooney told his program that "the soul has gone" from his former team.
Amorim has secured just eighteen victories from his 49 matches in charge, including 9 out of thirty-three in the English top flight, where he has yet to record two consecutive wins.
While senior club sources are insistent that Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to be backing the manager, failure to overcome recently promoted Sunderland on Saturday will spark renewed discussion about his position heading into the upcoming two-week international break.
"This is understandable," commented the Portugal-born manager, when questioned about Rooney's remarks. "One can't escape from the results."
"Then you have the legacy from last season, [although] last season for me is irrelevant."
Supporter Response and Present Situation
United's fans remained supportive of their manager following the previous campaign's poor performance, when they finished fifteenth in the table - their poorest showing since the 1973/74 demotion season - and were beaten in the Europa League final, in the expectation that this season would be significantly better.
Amorim promised fans the circumstances would get better because he had additional time to train with his team without the midweek distraction of European football.
However is not been how the first six matches have unfolded as Manchester United have suffered three losses already and sit 14th in the standings.
Coach's Reaction to Concerns
When asked what assurances he could offer followers that the position will get better, the manager added: "This is not time to speak, it is the time to prove."
"I look at the games this season and, for me, they are totally varied, but I have nothing to comment at the current time."
